A 15-minute walk from Adagio and built during the Japanese colonial era, this watercourse bridge served as a watercourse that helped guide water from its source to water tanks at refineries where the transported water was used in smelting and refining.
When the watercourse crossed over a ravine, the bridge that was built to support it formed a beautiful, rustic arch shape.
This watercourse bridge and two other watercourse bridges that were built at different times stand parallel to each other, forming a “three parallel bridge” view that is peculiar and a sight to be seen.
This trail is also a key spot featured in every year’s Mazu Pilgrimage when the procession passes through the Shuinandong/Jinguashi/Jiufen area.
Once a deserted spot, Benshan Fifth Tunnel has been restored and is currently one of the best-preserved mining tunnels in Taiwan. Don on a miner’s cap and explore this 180-meter long tunnel! You will embark on a journey into the joys and sorrows of the gold-mining days.
Mine caves are among the most dangerous places in the world; in every phase of it – from excavation, tracking, explosions, to transportation – there are hidden risks and dangers awaiting the workers.
More than that, even if they manage to dodge these bullets, mine workers often suffer from a lifelong struggle against pneumoconiosis.
In order to make a living, these workers paid the highest price there was to pay.
In a mere 20 minutes, you will have walked through the life of a mine worker – for love, they labored. At the faraway end of the endless, pitch-black tunnel, there seems to be a glimpse of an ever-flickering golden ray of light.
For over a hundred years, Cyuanji Temple has worshiped Holy Ruler Deity Guan, the deity title of Guan Yu.
The Guan Yu bronze statue at Cyuanji Temple is among the tallest and heaviest of its kind in Asia.
It rises against the hills and looks over the ocean, standing firmly atop the temple, glistening in rays of solemn, golden lights – it is the guardian deity of Jinguashi.
Each year, the area hosts the Guan Gong (Guan Yu) Cultural Festival, which attracts many followers to join in worshipping.
Located on the roadside of Jinshui Highway (on the section heading towards Changren Community and Shuinandong), the Golden Waterfall boasts a gold-tinted magnificent landscape. It consists of converging water exiting Benshan Sixth Tunnel and Changren Fifth Tunnel (WuFanKeng). Jinguashi is a rainy area, and when the waterfall’s mineral-rich water meets the acidic rainwater, the minerals become oxidized, giving the water a golden hue. The golden image expresses the kind of anticipation that Asians hold towards richness and abundance.
Once a smelter plant for Taijin Company, the building is home to the longest flue in the world; it was also the center of the gold-mining town and one of the key players in Taiwan’s gold-mining history.
When that part of the history was over, it turned its demise into a spectacle by reintroducing itself to the world under a new appearance –its decadent yet splendid beauty.
This historical chapter was written with the lives and sacrifices of mine workers, making the legend all the more touching.
