Naelian is Amis language meaning “a place of thatch.” The owner of the Surface Cafe and Naelian Studio is a woodcarving creator. He and his wife built this hermetic place and started their family at the 58K on the Taiwan Provincial Highway 11.
They live at the place surrounded by the mountains and the sea and create woodcrafts here. They sometimes play drums to extemporize which shows aboriginal people’s nature of being carefree. Visitors can book in advance for woodworking activities.

They offer special aboriginal seafood dishes as well as dried smoked flying fish smoked by shell ginger. You are welcome to visit the Makudaai Tribe to enjoy the lovely lifestyle of the aboriginal people.

Long, Hui-mei, the owner of the Mian Ma Wu Cotton House,
has elegance just like her hand-made products are. The hats, bags, and clothes she made are simple and original with the natural material and colors used.
 
She teaches the local aboriginal women to weave attentively with their best wishes to the products. The elegant and simple elements in the products turn each art work into lively beings waiting for its fated owners to take it home.
 
In a tranquil and rural place, the magic of the Cotton House attracts customers not just in Taiwan but also around the world. Stanley Yen, the well-known philanthropist, and Mei-ching Chow, the former first lady of Taiwan, are also frequent customers of the Cotton House.
